Creative support in secondary schools

art workshops & teacher support

IMG_1034.heic

I provide high-quality, flexible creative support for secondary schools looking to enrich their art provision, engage learners at all levels, and offer tailored wellbeing-focused opportunities, as well as releiving pressure on teaching staff.

With over six years of experience in schools and over a decade as a professional working artist, my approach combines technical expertise, holistic awareness, and a calm, grounded presence that supports both students and staff.

What I Offer:

  • In-class support – Assisting teaching staff with the delivery of art lessons. This is particularly helpful when art is not the teacher’s subject specialism, or when additional creative input and hands-on support would benefit students.

  • Full session delivery – I can lead creative workshops or full art lessons independently, offering engaging, professionally led sessions aligned with curriculum topics or enrichment goals.

  • Small group or 1:1 creative enrichment – Tailored sessions for students who may need extra time, confidence-building, or emotional support to engage creatively.

  • Creative wellbeing provision – Art-led sessions supporting self-expression, emotional regulation, and confidence, designed especially for students with SEMH needs or those in alternative learning pathways.

All sessions are adapted to the needs of your school, students, and priorities — and include full preparation, resources, and materials (with the exception of in-class teacher support sessions.)

Why schools choose to work with me:

  • I bring a combination of professional expertise and a holistic relational, inclusive approach that enhances student learning while supporting overall school capacity.

  • I am a professional artist (with a dedicated working studio space) with over 12 years experience, specialising in portraiture, animal studies, abstract painting, and mixed media. My work is sold, exhibited, and commissioned — offering students a direct link to real-world creative practice and work experience.

  • I hold City & Guilds and higher education qualifications in Art & Design, and have delivered sessions across a range of local schools, always adapting my delivery to suit the age, ability, and learning objectives of each group.

  • I am confident working within classroom settings (including at the forefront) and integrate seamlessly with school teams — offering reliability, clarity, and a calm, supportive presence, even in high-demand environments.

  • I also offer opportunities to work with staff teams on holistic wellbeing, including guided meditation, creative based team-building, and restorative workshops, contributing positively to whole-school culture and emotional wellbeing.

Head Teacher Feedback

" Laura led therapeutic art sessions over a number of terms at my school. Laura’s approachable, kind and professional approach made it easy for class teachers to liaise with her and decide what sort of provision would best suit the needs of the children. Laura was able to deliver impactful and fun sessions that engaged children and allowed them to improve on agreed targets such as communication, vocabulary and teamwork. I heartily recommend Laura and I’m sure my children would do too! "

Creative Learning Support with a Focus on SEMH and SEND Inclusion

Alongside my creative background, I hold a Level 2 qualification in Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health, and I am currently undertaking further training in trauma-informed practice to deepen and formalise my approach.

As a parent of two neurodivergent children, I bring lived understanding and compassionate awareness into every session. I have supported students with ASD, ADHD, anxiety, trauma, and other SEND or SEMH needs — as well as children from military families (a background I personally share), in various capacities - including 1:1 work, small group, whole class, and even tailored homeschool support.

Whether supporting engagement in a busy classroom or offering a safe, quiet space for creative exploration, I am skilled in creating environments where young people feel respected, seen, and encouraged - using art as a tool for connection, expression and building on confidence, resilience, problem solving, motor skills, emotional self awareness, and more.

SenCo Feedback

"Laura has been working with children within our school for over 6 years now and her expertise and compassionate approach has made a positive impact on a number of children’s well-being.

She has a wealth of experience in the field and a passion for helping children through the therapeutic power of art. Laura is known for creating a safe, fun and supportive environment where children can freely express themselves. Her gentle approach combines art with mindfulness to build self esteem and enable personal growth.

Laura is skilled in tailoring her sessions to meet the unique needs and interests of each pupil, making the experience both enjoyable and beneficial. At the end of each term, Laura reviews her sessions and updates the teachers to ensure they are made aware of how the children are progressing. Her warm and empathetic nature makes it easy for everyone to communicate with.

All children love working with Laura and I believe all schools should give their children the opportunity to benefit from this wonderful experience!"

Private Sessions

Private 1:1 and small group art sessions are available to book either at your location or, for individual sessions, at my art studio in Wilton (SN8).

These are not formal tutoring sessions and do not follow a set curriculum. Instead, they provide creative support, artistic enrichment, and guided exploration tailored to your child’s interests and ability.

Sessions are particularly well-suited for children in alternative education or those who would benefit from additional space to develop their creativity in a relaxed, supportive setting.

Sessions are £30 per hour, inclusive of all tools and materials.
A mileage fee may apply for travel to external locations.

Staff Wellbeing & Team Building

Staff Wellbeing Sessions –

Holistic, Creative Support Designed for Educators

A professionally delivered, non-clinical approach to supporting staff wellbeing through a blend of art-based exploration with a holistic focus.

These sessions are designed specifically for educational environments — offering calm, structured time for staff to step out of their day-to-day roles, reconnect with themselves, and strengthen their connection with colleagues. Ideal for INSET days, twilight sessions, or as part of your ongoing staff wellbeing strategy.

Activities may include accessible creative exercises, journalling, mindfulness, and reflective prompts — all tailored to suit your team’s needs. No artistic or holistic experience is required, and all guidance is delivered in a grounded, inclusive way.

Each session includes space for guided group reflection in a calm, circle-based format. This is not about personal disclosure, but about creating meaningful opportunities for staff to pause, share, and listen — strengthening communication, mutual respect, and team connection in a professional setting.

Session Details:

  • £20 per person

  • Up to 15 participants per group

  • 90-minute sessions

  • Held on school premises or in a suitable venue organised by the school

  • All materials included. No additional fees apply

  • Multiple groups can be accommodated within the same booking

These sessions offer more than a one-off experience — they contribute to a healthier, more connected school culture, where staff feel valued, supported, and seen.

If you’d like to discuss booking or tailoring a session to suit your team, I’d love to hear from you.
